Make youth a priority!
The European Parliament, meeting today in Strasbourg in plenary session, has voted in favour of an EU budget in 2018 that accompanies the still fragile recovery growth in Europe. For the European Democrats, efforts should be made to combat the unemployment of young Europeans.
Gérard DEPREZ, EDP Delegate General, said: "The situation of young people in Europe is a major concern for me: the unemployment rate among young people is far too high in the Union. In some countries, it is basically unbearable. At a time when so many populists want to destroy the European home, we have an obligation to demonstrate that the Union is of real added value for younger generations.
This is why the youth employment initiative deserves to be supported and strengthened in a resolute manner. The stinginess of the Council in this matter is a shame. The Erasmus + program, which is undeniably successful, must also have the means to expand, not only to academics but also to young apprentices and people in training. For me, the best investment we can make is investing in youth. That is why I urge the European authorities not to miss out on the future of Europe. The best investment we can make is investment in youth. Please do not miss out on the future of Europe!"
