The future of beekeeping: our concern!

The European Parliament has adopted today a report on the prospects and challenges for the EU apiculture sector calling for a protection of bee health, a support to beekeepers and fighting honey adulteration. This report aims at banning all harmful pesticides, tightening up checks to halt fake honey imports and promoting health benefits of honey.

Ulrike Müller (Germany), Shadow rapporteur on this report pointed out that: “Today, in the European Parliament, we have called for a better protection of bees and more support to and better training for beekeepers. Bees not only supply us with delicious honey, they are also elementary for the ecosystem. The future of beekeeping is our concern.”

Nathalie Griesbeck (France), member of ‘Apiculture and Bee Health’ Working Group, also added that: “with this report, the European Parliament tackles several important issues: beekeepers’ working conditions, bee health and the protection of honey-based products. Save our bees, save our honey, save our biodiversity”
