Congress of the Democratic Movement: François Bayrou re-elected
Our French member, Mouvement Démocrate, held its congress this weekend. Its members voted to renew the party's bodies including the National Council and to elect their President. Our President, François Bayrou, was re-elected President of the Democratic Movement.
On the occasion of this online Congress, many political personalities took the floor, including French Prime Minister Jean Castex and the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton. Many tributes were paid to Valéry Giscard d'Estaing.
The Secretary General of the European Democrats, Marielle de Sarnez, also commented: "The crises we have to face are immense and numerous, they affect our stability, they affect our reasons for living. If we know how to hold out, resist for as long as it takes, help each other, give the best of ourselves, then we will find ourselves with tenfold energy and the mad desire to move forward and all hopes will be possible".
Our MEPs took part in the various forums: Marie-Pierre Vedrenne with Vincent Chauvet (member of the Committee of the Regions) on the issue of decentralisation, and Laurence Farreng on the issue of democracy and citizen participation.
