Sandro Gozi and European Democrats in Washington DC to meet US Democrats
A delegation of 6 MEPs from the European Democratic Party (EDP) led by Sandro GOZI is travelling to the United States from 31st October to 4th November for high-level meetings in Washington DC with US lawmakers, government officials and think-tanks.
Just as the European Parliament prepares the 2nd half of this legislature, the EDP wants to kick-start a partnership with US Democrats during this one-week mission in Washington DC. The delegation will discuss a range of issues that are of interest for both Europe and the US, including as China, cybersecurity, trade, digital innovation and the energy transition.
Sandro GOZI, EDP Secretary General and leader of the delegation said: “it is high time that democrats on both sides of the Atlantic work more closely together. European and US Democrats have everything to gain from regular exchanges like these. For example, how to effectively tackle climate change, making our democracies more resilient, boosting the green recovery from the Covid-19 crisis, but also how to fight nationalism and the far-right.”
The delegation will be meeting Representative Jim MCGOVERN (D-Massachusetts, Chair), Senator Tom CARPER (D-Delaware), Representative Jim COSTA (D-California), Representative Ruben GALLEGO (D-Arizona), and the co-chairs of the Congressional European Union Caucus, Representatives Brendan BOYLE (D-Pennsylvania) and Joe WILSON (R-South Carolina). The program also includes meetings with the State Department, Brookings Institution, the German Marshall Fund and the Atlantic Council.
