The ocean is our future!
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the French General Secretariat for the Sea, MEP Catherine Chabaud took part in the issue of the Cahiers d'administration dedicated to France's maritime issues, in an interview on her work as an MEP (to be read here on her website). This is an opportunity to look back on her views and her commitments in favour of the Ocean and the Sea.
The sailor and member of the MoDem (France), was also able to recall the four major issues related to the Ocean in her action in the European Parliament: i) more knowledge; ii) more preservation; iii) a more sustainable blue economy; iv) and better governance of the Ocean. Today, she works in the European Parliament's committees dedicated to fisheries, environment and development. In this capacity, she deals with all texts related to the sea, proposes to be the rapporteur and, in any case, she amends them all so as to help raise the sea to a higher level!
She is convinced that the Ocean must be the responsibility of each one of us and all of us collectively.
Her ambition at European level is therefore to move from an integrated maritime policy to a genuine cross-cutting and inclusive maritime strategy embodied by the institutions and Member States.
This is a subject that it also addresses at the global level, with the "Ocean as a Common Good for Humanity".
