For us it is time to rebuild the Union!

We have a duty to share our European dream with our fellow citizens, sharing values of respect for human dignity, the rule of law, freedom, equality, solidarity and responsibility.

It is time for Democrats to take the lead.

Toward an economic and social renewal

Yesterday in Brussels, the European Democratic Party took stock of the European elections. Through the voice of its Secretary General Marielle de Sarnez, the EDP states that "more than ever, we need to regain the citizens’ trust", after the anti-European populist thrust.

From this observation, we must, as pointed MEP Izaskun Bilbao Basque, do our "mea culpa" because we do not talk enough of Europe when we return to our national political scenes. For François Bayrou, it is "not an institution is as unreadable" Without clarity, there can be no understanding and therefore adherence.

Francesco Rutelli said it is "essential that Europe evolves along with other emerging countries such as China, which is becoming the world's leading economic power. Only a united Europe can compete and have a voice in a changing world, and we, the Europeans, have to help to redress the destiny of a great democracy".

Proud of its support to Guy Verhofstadt during the European campaign, the EDP is convinced that European political parties will play a more important role in European political life in the coming years. The choice by the European Council to appoint Jean-Claude Juncker as candidate for the presidency of the Commission illustrates this victory for the European democracy.

Innovative thematic working groups on major European priorities will be implemented in the coming weeks. According to Jean-Marie Cavada, Europe is an old continent in need for "modernization” based on the idea of an "economic renewal" combined with a "social renewal".

The EDP will hold its Congress in Brussels on 10 and 11 December.
