Organizzata a margine del Congresso del Partito Democratico Europeo (PDE), la prima riunione della Rete dei Sindaci Democratici è stata convocata da François Decoster, Presidente di Renew Europe presso il Comitato delle Regioni, insieme a Sandro Gozi, membro del Parlamento europeo e Segretario Generale del PDE. Nel corso dell'incontro pomeridiano i sindaci hanno condiviso le migliori pratiche su una serie di sfide diverse, tra cui lo sviluppo sostenibile, i finanziamenti dell'UE, la cooperazione tra città, la partecipazione dei cittadini, la crisi dei rifugiati e la democrazia. Durante l'incontro, durato due ore, i sindaci hanno chiesto una maggiore cooperazione per far avanzare l'agenda locale e regionale e il sostegno a una condizionalità intelligente dei fondi UE. I sindaci hanno inoltre deciso di creare una rete di sindaci democratici e di iniziare a prepararsi per la Giornata dell'Europa 2023 e per le prossime elezioni europee. ##### Partecipanti Les 12 maires et responsables locaux de sept pays étaient : François Decoster (Saint-Omer), Jean-Marie Beaupuy (ancien adjoint au maire de Reims), Istvan Serto Radics (ancien maire d’Uszka), Birgit Kreß (maire de Markt Erlbach), Helmut Kinkel (maire de Groß-Gerau), Juan María Aburto (maire de Bilbao), Ander Añibarro (maire de Llodio), Maria Ubarrechena (maire de Mondragon), Monika Shaw Salajová (conseillère de Prague 5), Giuseppe Varacallli (ancien maire de Gerace), Sergio Ravier Rodriges Fernnades (maire de El Paso), Filipe Sousa (maire de Santa Cruz). ##### Perché il vertice è importante? Il ruolo dei sindaci delle città sta diventando sempre più importante nella costruzione dell'Unione europea e nell'aiutare l'UE a gestire con successo le sfide del XXI secolo. Il gruppo contribuirà anche alla preparazione del manifesto della PDE 2024, che si terrà entro l'estate del 2023.
