Accessibility

Everyone should be able to follow the fight for European democracy — whoever they are, however they browse.

The European Democratic Party wants its website to be open to all. Web accessibility means ensuring that people with the widest possible range of abilities — including those who rely on assistive technologies — can easily find, read and use everything we publish here. For a party built on the conviction that Europe must be close to all its citizens, an accessible website is not a technical detail but a democratic commitment.

We work actively to improve the experience for everyone, and we aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, at conformance level AA — the international benchmark for accessible web content. These guidelines are produced by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) as part of its Web Accessibility Initiative, and are intended for all those who provide, write, develop or design web content.

Accessible content should meet the four principles of web accessibility — the "POUR" principles:

Perceivable — content should be available to at least one of the user's senses. For example, images are described with alternative text for visually impaired users.

Operable — content can be controlled through a variety of tools. For example, the whole site can be navigated using only a keyboard, for people who cannot use a mouse.

Understandable — content uses clear, simple language and predictable, consistent interfaces. This helps people with cognitive or reading difficulties.

Robust — the website works well across different platforms, browsers and devices, including assistive technologies.

This website is being optimised to apply the WCAG 2.1 level AA standard as fully as possible.

You should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300% across most of the website without difficulty;
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard alone;
  • navigate most of the website using assistive technologies such as a screen reader or a magnifier.

Despite our efforts, some content — such as certain videos or embedded documents — may not yet be fully optimised. We monitor the accessibility of our website on an ongoing basis and continue to make improvements.
