Senior members of the European Democratic Party have visited Dáil Éireann, the Irish Parliament, to strengthen ties with Independent Ireland. The delegation was joined by MEP Ciarán Mullooly, along with Independent Ireland TDs Michael Collins, Richard O’Donoghue, Ken O’Flynn, and Michael Fitzmaurice.
Party Leader Michael Collins TD, expressed his strong appreciation for the visit, which marked an important step in fostering closer collaboration between the party and its European allies. Speaking after the meeting, Deputy Collins said:
“We thank senior team members Alessio De Giorgi and Hajar Taoussi for making the journey. It was a pleasure to meet them face-to-face and work together towards our common goals of building stronger representation for Independent Ireland in Europe.”
The discussions centred on key policy areas of mutual concern, including housing, agriculture, fisheries, and youth development. The position on the Mercosur trade agreement was also an important issue, with both sides reiterating their commitment to protect Irish farmers and ensure fair trade practices within the EU.

MEP Ciarán Mullooly, who has been instrumental in forging closer ties between Independent Ireland and European institutions, was commended for his tireless efforts since his election.
General Secretary Richard O’Donoghue Added “We’re delighted to be here in Dublin this morning, alongside our colleagues from the EDP, to continue building our relationship and strengthening ties, I had the pleasure of visiting Brussels last year to meet some of the EDP team and we are delighted to be able them to invite them to Leinster house today. Ciarán Mullooly has worked non-stop since his election, to bring our brand of common sense politics into the European Parliament and that is something he will continue to do while focusing on the key areas of mutual concern for ourselves, the EDP and the people of Ireland”
“For the European Democratic Party,” said Secretary General Sandro Gozi in a message to the participants of the meeting, “Independent Ireland is a strategic partner in a key country for the European Union. We share the pro-European and democratic values, the pragmatic and common sense approach and we will strengthen our cooperation for a more united and stronger Europe.
Looking ahead, both Independent Ireland and the European Democratic Party outlined a shared vision for deeper cooperation, with practical results expected in the coming months.
Michael Collins TD concluded: “The outcomes of this visit will be seen in the months ahead, as we work towards a united goal in partnership with our European colleagues. This collaboration will deliver real benefits for the people of Ireland, ensuring that their concerns are represented both at home and in Europe.”
The visit highlights Independent Ireland’s growing influence in European political discourse and reinforces its commitment to delivering for Irish citizens on both the national and European stage.
