Ciaran Mullooly, new Irish independent MEP for the European Democratic Party

The European Democratic Party is pleased to announce that it has received and accepted the application for individual membership of Irish MEP Ciaran Mullooly, elected in the Midlands-North-West constituency. Accordingly, the European Democratic Party has forwarded the documentation to the Renew Europe group for its membership, that was accepted today. With Mullooly’s membership, the EDP rises to 10 MEPs.

Engin Eroglu, elected as vice-president executive of EDP

The European Democratic Party is pleased to announce that German Freie Wähler MEP Engin Eroglu has been elected executive vice-president.
“I am honoured to accept the nomination as Deputy Chairman of the European Democratic Party. I firmly believe in our centrist vision and am determined to advance the consolidation and revitalization efforts of recent years”, said Eroglu: “I will dedicate myself wholeheartedly to achieving our common goals and advancing the European Democratic Party. Together, we can create a strong, independent, and economically thriving European Union that provides security and prosperity for its citizens”.

Press Conference: new party member Les Engagés join the EDP

On Thursday 20 June, Maxime PREVOT, President of the Mouvement Les Engagés, and Yvan VEROUGSTRAETE, Vice-President and MEP, announced the arrival of the Mouvement Les Engagés in the European Democratic Party at a press conference at the European Parliament in the presence of François BAYROU, President of the PDE, and Sandro GOZI, Secretary General of the European Party.

Towards the new migration pact: promoting local participation in the European response to the migration challenge

Coalición Canaria and the European Democratic Party organised a Seminar on Migration, Asylum and Refugees at the CICCA Cultural Centre in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
In an event in which the Secretary General of the CC and President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and the Secretary General of the EDP and MEP, Sandro Gozi, took part, they addressed the new European Migration Pact, recently approved, from different perspectives, and discussed measures and tools that allow the promotion of local participation in the European response to the migration challenge.

EDP goes to the States: Secretary General Sandro Gozi in mission to New York and Washington DC

The European Democratic Party Secretary General Sandro Gozi went for a study trip to the United States. His first stop was in New York for a meeting with Melissa Fleming at the UN: they had fascinating exchange on online political advertising and an update on the new rules voted last week by the European Parliament. Followed by a panel discussion on the war against Hamas organised by J Street: EDP called for immediate release of hostages, respect for international law, common security, and called for working for peace and democracy.

Renew Europe Now Kick-off campaign event – 20 March 2024

March 20th, 2024, marked a significant event on the European political landscape. The Renew Europe Now campaign kick-off event, heralding a new electoral platform, brought together the – European Democrats and the other centrist forces . Held at the Musées royaux d’Art et d’Histoire in Brussels, Belgium, this event was more than just a meeting of minds; it was a clarion call to liberal, centrist, and democratic forces across Europe. Over 800 people were in attendance, underscoring the widespread interest in and support for the Renew Europe Now campaign.

Renew Europe Now: priorities and candidates. Interview to Sandro Gozi

Nominated on 8th March as the European Democratic Party’s (EDP) top candidate, Sandro Gozi, the party’s current Secretary General and a member of the French delegation of the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament since 2020, talks about the priorities of his campaign and those of the ‘Renew Europe Now’ platform that will be launched in Brussels on 20th March. Given the breakthrough of the far right predicted by recent polls, he believes that much of the election will be played out in Italy, where he still hopes that the Italian parties belonging to Renew Europe will form a united list. He also remains convinced that his political family will be represented in the EU’s top posts after the elections, recalling the group’s priorities on defence, the rule of law and enlargement.
