The European Democratic Party

The centrist force that refuses to look away.
While democracy comes under pressure across the world, the EDP unites parties and elected representatives who share one conviction: a Europe that is sovereign, democratic and close to its citizens is worth fighting for. We are federalists by ambition and democrats by principle — building an alliance of democrats in Europe and beyond.

A Union closer to its citizens

The European Democratic Party brings together political parties and Members of the European Parliament who want a Union that is sovereign, democratic and close to its citizens. We are a transnational, centrist and federalist movement, committed to building a European democracy founded on freedom, solidarity and the rule of law.

The EDP sits within the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament. Launched on 16 April 2004 and officially founded on 9 December 2004 in Brussels, it was created in reaction to the rise of Eurosceptic forces in the European institutions, forming a new multinational centrist bloc.

It's time to rebuild Europe

Our responsibility as democrats is to build alliances, find common ground, and turn it into momentum for reform. In a world where democracy is under pressure, the EDP works to unite the democrats of Europe — and beyond — around a clear ambition: a Europe that defends itself, decides for itself, and protects its citizens. A Europe that is sustainable, fair and competitive, that stands with its allies and acts with strength in the world.

This is the challenge of our time, and it is urgent. We will keep advancing our priorities with more determination than ever — because a stronger European democracy is built every day, not only at election time.

Our Manifesto

Democrats play a role at the centre of European politics. That centre is both a project and a political mindset. Those who disagree with you are not enemies. So our future must be balanced, and that balance that must be built in Europe. A Democrat leads and seeks a balance within the community to whom he belongs. The European Democratic Party wants and must be the inspiration for a new political constellation whose aim is to transform the European Union and strengthen our European democracy. The challenge is great, the urgency is there, and our determination unshakeable. We will therefore be today, tomorrow and in 2025, the torchbearer of the European refoundation.

Statutes

On the basis of a commitment to an increasingly politically integrated Europe, and to the construction of a democratic, free and united Union; the joint will to build a clear political vision for a common future with the ultimate goal of building a political Europe that would also be a "Europe of solidarity"; the necessary support of the European institutions as a key to build the future of the European Union; the project for a peaceful and prosperous Europe based on the shared values of peace, freedom, democracy, solidarity and education; we establish the European Democratic Party. By this agreement, the parties of the countries, historical nationalities and regions of the European Union that share common values and the principles set out in this preamble form "the European Democratic Party (EDP)".
