The European Democratic Party (EDP) is proud to announce the accession of the Movement for Democracy (Κίνημα Δημοκρατίας – KD), the Greek political party founded by Stefanos Kasselakis, into its centrist and pro-European political family.
With this step, the EDP further strengthens its presence in Southern Europe and reinforces its commitment to a democratic, sovereign, and inclusive European Union.
Stefanos Kasselakis, leader of the Movement for Democracy, stated:
“Our accession to the European Democrats reflects our commitment to a stronger, independent, and citizen-centered Europe. We stand for shared values: the rule of law, participatory democracy, cultural heritage, climate adaptation, and support for those who sustain our societies, such as farmers and small producers. We join a political family that seeks to amplify Europe’s voice on the global stage. Greece remains a pillar of peace — but never at the expense of its core principles: under current conditions, Turkey’s EU accession cannot be supported.”
François Bayrou, French Prime Minister and President of the EDP, welcomed the new member:
” We are very pleased to welcome a young and innovative party into our centrist European family. At such a crucial time for Europe and the world, the arrival of new faces for the future of Greece and Europe is highly significant. The fact that a European political family with strong humanist values continues to grow is undeniably good news.”
Sandro Gozi, Secretary General of the EDP, added:
“The accession of KD highlights the growing appeal of the renewed European Democratic Party. Over the past years, we have undergone a deep transformation, and this milestone brings a significant political force from a major European country to the European Democrats.”
The Movement for Democracy shares the EDP’s vision for a Europe that delivers, protects freedoms, and gives voice to its citizens. The EDP looks forward to a strong and dynamic cooperation in the run-up to the 2024–2029 legislative term, with a clear objective: to ensure that in the next European elections, Greece is represented within our political family.
