The European Democratic Party welcomes Momentum: a new centrist energy for Malta and Europe

Family of Momentum

The European Democratic Party (EDP) is proud to announce the adhesion to our European political family of Momentum, Malta’s newly established centrist party led by Arnold Cassola —former Secretary General of the European Green Party and a prominent figure in Maltese and European politics. Officially registered as a political party on 4 April 2025, Momentum is a young and dynamic force, aiming to renew the Maltese political landscape with a strong focus on good governance, economic justice and environmental sustainability.

Momentum

Momentum brings together professionals, engaged citizens, young people and committed activists who believe in ethical politics, transparency, and long-term vision. It is a civic project before being a political one—an effort to build a new leadership class rooted in real life and everyday concerns. Momentum stands out for its pragmatic and inclusive approach. It promotes policies based on accountability, civic participation, and a fairer, greener society.

The Secretary General of Momentum, Mark Camilleri Gambin, stated: “Momentum is proud to join the EDP and we look forward to contribute to bringing about the authentic European values of peace, solidarity and justice in a world that is ablaze with violence and injustice from Ukraine to Gaza”

Sandro Gozi, Secretary General of the EDP, declared: “Momentum’s accession to the European Democratic Party strengthens our commitment to a fairer, more sustainable, and citizen-oriented Europe. In a deeply polarised political climate, the entry of a centrist and reformist force like Momentum sends a hopeful message for the future of European democracy.”

Centrist Convention in Guidel: Setting the Agenda for Political Action and Citizen Involvement

Hundreds of activists and political leaders congregated at Guidel over the course of the event.
