Albania: Gozi meets Marjana Koçeku at the European Parliament
Marjana Koçeku, a young Albanian MP engaged in supporting the civic movement currently unfolding in Albania, met today at the European Parliament with Sandro Gozi, Secretary-General of the European Democratic Party.
At the centre of the meeting were the protests that, in recent days, have brought thousands of Albanian citizens — especially young people — into the streets to demand more democracy, transparency, rule of law and respect for fundamental European principles.
Following the meeting, Koçeku and Gozi recorded a video, published at 19:00 on the social media channels of the European Democratic Party, Sandro Gozi and Marjana Koçeku, with a clear message: “Albania is not for sale. Shqipëria nuk është në shitje”.
In the video, Marjana Koçeku explains that she came to the European Parliament “to bring the voice of thousands of Albanians who are protesting these days” — not only to express dissatisfaction with the government and the country’s leadership, but above all to call for more democracy, more transparency and a stronger rule of law.
Koçeku also underlined that the Albanian people, and especially the younger generation, are showing “a strong desire and readiness to join the European Union”, while stressing that this path must be built on a stronger and more transparent democracy.
Sandro Gozi expressed the support of European Democrats for the Albanian civic movement, describing it as a movement calling for greater transparency, respect for fundamental rights and the fight against corruption.
“The Albanian people are deeply European. Albania deserves a future in Europe, but it also deserves leadership that truly respects the fundamental principles of our Union — the very same principles at the heart of the civic movement now unfolding in the country,” Gozi said.
The European Democratic Party will continue to follow the situation in Albania with great attention, reaffirming its support for a European path based on democracy, rule of law, transparency, the fight against corruption and respect for citizens.
Albania is European. Albania is not for sale.
