The Autoworld museum in Brussels, famous for its tribute to the history of the European automotive industry, will soon be hosting a major event: the Congress of the European Democratic Party. The Congress, organised by one of the two European parties in the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament, will be followed by a conference entitled ‘The centre is the answer’. This conference will mark 20 years of the European Democratic Party and will address the current challenges facing a centrist, humanist, pragmatic and reformist party.
Immediately afterwards, from 4.30 pm, the hall will be open to non-delegates for the Conference “The centre is the answer”.
The first part will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the European Democratic Party with videos and testimonies from its founders.
The second part, starting at 5.30pm, will focus on the challenges facing a centrist, humanist, pragmatic and reformist political party. The threats from the sovereignist and eurosceptic right will be discussed, as well as the challenges facing Europe in terms of competitiveness and new digital technologies. The relationship with the United States and the United Kingdom will also be discussed. Academic interventions, testimonies from right-wing dominated countries, videos, musical moments and interviews will alternate.
The event will be closed by speeches from Sandro Gozi, Secretary General of the PDE, and François Bayrou, President of the PDE. Other speakers include Maxime Prevot, president of Engagès, and political scientist Yair Zivan, author of “The Centre Must Hold: Why Centrism is the Answer to Extremism and Polarisation”.
