Izaskun Bilbao Barandica, 61, from Basque Country, has been a member of European Parliament since 2009 and a Renew Europe Group member since 2019. A member of the Basque Nationalist Party since 1998 and president of the Basque Parliament from 2005-2009. She closely follows topics on transport, fisheries, and industrial strategies. In 2019, Izaskun Bilbao Barandica became Vice-Chair of the Delegation for relations with the countries of the Andean Community (DAND), where she commits herself to strengthening relations with those countries, such as motoring the peace process in Colombia. She is also highly engaged in women’s rights serving on the Committee on Women and Youth in the Basque Parliament and the Committee of Women’s Rights and Gender Equality in the European Parliament. At local level, Bilbao Barandica served as member of town council in Bermeo, her hometown, working on town planning and culture. She obtained a law degree as well as a master’s degree in economics and business administration from the University of the Basque Country.
