Nicola Danti, 56, has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014 and is the Vice-Chair of the Renew Europe group since 2021. A member of Italia Viva party in Italy, he is a member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, as well as the committees on international trade and transport. From Tuscany, Danti also follows foreign policy issues, serving on the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly and Delegation for relations with Mercosur. During this legislature, he has mainly worked on the EU’s data strategy and on energy policy. In the previous term, he was rapporteur for the Market surveillance and conformity of products Regulation, as well as working on cyber security. Before being a European parliamentarian, Danti was an administrator in a private consulting company. He also served in local and regional government, including the Regional Parliament of Tuscany from 2007-2014 and before then from 1995-1999 as Deputy Mayor of the municipality of Pontassieve within the Metropolitan City of Florence. He described his first 500 days as a member of the European Parliament in a book published in December 2015 and titled "La strada da percorrere" – translated as “The way to go”.
