Christophe Grudler, French MEP MoDem-PDE, reacts to the announcement of the Green Deal Industrial Plan by the European Commission, explaining the stakes of this plan.
What is the Green Deal Industrial Plan?
The proposals of the Industrial Plan, presented by President Ursula von der Leyen, are a response to the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) set up in the United States, favouring local companies in the country’s ecological transition.
Europe therefore wishes to adopt a tool for the development of a European zero emission industry. By avoiding mass relocations, investing in the energy transition and supporting the development of a high-tech industry, the European Union is seeking to promote the production of green energy on its territory in the long term.
The plan also proposes the use of existing funds by redirecting them towards the ecological transition. Finally, it proposes the creation of a sovereign wealth fund for European industry to finance European projects in new technologies, as proposed by our group in the European Parliament.
The whole plan and its proposals for the European environmental transition will be discussed by the European Parliament and the 27 Heads of State and Government of the European Union at the special Council on 9 and 10 February.
