Story

Coalición Canaria (CC) is the principal political force of the Canary Islands and one of the European Democratic Party's most committed members. Born in 1993 from the coming-together of several Canarian parties, it has grown into the leading voice of the archipelago, rooted in a single conviction: that the Canary Islands, an Atlantic nation far from mainland Europe, deserve to decide their own future while playing a full and constructive role within the European Union.

At the heart of CC's project lies the defence of Canarian self-government and of the islands' distinct identity, history and interests. As the party of an outermost region of the European Union, it gives particular attention to the challenges of insularity and remoteness — from territorial cohesion and economic development to the management of migration on Europe's southern frontier — and works to ensure that the voice of the periphery is heard at the centre of European decision-making.

Within the European Democratic Party, which it joined in 2016, Coalición Canaria embodies a conviction at the core of the EDP's vision: that a strong Europe and strong territories are not rivals but allies, and that Europe's outermost regions are not its margins, but part of its strength.
