Story

Stronnictwo Demokratyczne (Alliance of Democrats) is one of the historic political parties of Poland, with origins reaching back to 1939 and a long association with the country's liberal and civic-democratic traditions. Heir to the intelligentsia and the world of small enterprise and the professions, it carries a distinctive place in the memory of Polish democratic life.

At the heart of the party's project lie pluralism, moderation and European cooperation: the defence of democratic institutions, civic responsibility, and a politics of dialogue and balance. It stands for an open, pro-European Poland, firmly anchored in the values and institutions of the European Union.

Within the European Democratic Party, which it joined in 2009, Stronnictwo Demokratyczne embodies a conviction at the core of the EDP's vision: that democracy rests on pluralism and moderation, and that the reunified, democratic Europe to which Poland belongs is a historic achievement to be defended and deepened.
