EAJ-PNV Euzko Alderdi Jeltzalea
Story
EAJ-PNV (Euzko Alderdi Jeltzalea – Basque National Party) is the historic party of the Basque Country and one of the founding members of the European Democratic Party. Founded in 1895, it is one of the oldest political organisations in Europe, deeply rooted in the identity, language and institutions of the Basque nation, and a central actor in Basque public life for well over a century.
At the heart of EAJ-PNV's project lies the defence of Basque self-government and of the nation's distinct identity, together with institutional responsibility, economic development and social cohesion. It combines a strong attachment to Basque self-rule with a profoundly European conviction, seeing in the Union the natural framework in which the nations and regions of Europe can flourish.
Within the European Democratic Party, of which it has been a member since its founding in 2004, EAJ-PNV embodies a conviction at the core of the EDP's vision: that a strong Europe and strong nations and territories are not rivals but allies — and that the identities and languages of Europe's peoples deserve their full place within the Union.
