Andrzej Potocki, von 2012 bis 2023 Vizepräsident der EDP, ist Philosoph und Schriftsteller und war von 1991 bis 2001 Mitglied des Sejm - des polnischen Parlaments. Er war Leiter und politischer Verantwortlicher der Vereinigung der Missionen der Organisation für Sicherheit und Zusammenarbeit in Europa (OSZE) auf dem Balkan und im Nahen Osten, stellvertretender Vorsitzender und internationaler Sekretär von Stronnictwo Demokratyczne (SD). Er präsentiert auf internationaler Ebene die Stiftung SiD - Fundacja Samorzadnosc I Demokracja -, die eine Mitgliedsorganisation des Instituts der Europäischen Demokraten ist. Neben Politik und Ideengeschichte ist er auch Autor von Büchern über die Geschichte des Fußballs und über Kriminalromane in der kommunistischen Ära.

Brussels, 14 January 2025 – Ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 (11 June – 19 July 2026), which will be hosted in part in the United States, the European Democratic Party (EDP) has sent a formal letter to key European and international authorities calling for clear, binding and publicly verifiable measures to protect European citizens travelling to the tournament.
The statement issued yesterday by the African Union in response to the United States’ withdrawal from key multilateral institutions deserves close attention also in Europe. The African Union has issued a clear and responsible warning: suspending funding and participation in United Nations bodies risks weakening peacebuilding, development, humanitarian action and the protection of the most vulnerable. It has done so in a balanced yet firm manner, reaffirming the central role of multilateralism at a time of profound global instability.
On Monday, 15 December, in Bitburg, over 300 citizens took part in an event organised by the European Democratic Party with MEP Joachim Streit and journalist Jan Fleischhauer on the role of Germany and Europe in global crises.
