
Eroglu: Europe Needs Strength, Not China Rhetoric

Former self-employed entrepreneur and independent branch manager for Sparkassen-Immobilien-Vermittlungs -GmBH, Engin Eroglu knows banking and financing start-up businesses. Member since 2012 of the German political party Freie Wähler, he served from 2014 to 2017 as deputy chair of the Freie Wähler Hessen regional party. From the state of Hesse in western Germany, he serves as substitute member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET). Engin Eroglu was elected as member of the European Parliament in 2019. While in the role of member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON), he holds the principle of member state financial self-responsibility of highest importance and is working on reinforcing the no bail-out-principle. He is a member of the Delegation to the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee (D-TR), the Delegation to the EU-Kazakhstan, EU-Kyrgyzstan, EU-Uzbekistan, and EU-Tajikistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committees and for relations with Turkmenistan and Mongolia (DCAS). He sits as a substitute for the Delegation for relations with Afghanistan (D-AF). He was shadow rapporteur in three European Parliament reports in 2021 on the European Central Bank and on a directive on credit servicers, credit purchasers, and the recovery of collateral.

Europe must move beyond naïveté towards China. The EDP backs a stronger EU approach based on economic security, reciprocity and strategic autonomy, while rejecting decoupling.

EDP members and Bavarian representatives met in Brussels to discuss regional development, SMEs and the role of municipalities in shaping a stronger and more citizen-focused European Union.

Today, our Secretary General Sandro Gozi had the honour of participating in the Renew Pre-Summit Leaders’ Meeting. The recent European elections showed a clear pro-European mandate. Despite the rise of extremists, the European Parliament will continue to shape EU policy for the next five years.
NextGen Europe, promoted by Engin Eroglu for the EDP, brought together participants from several countries in Ludwigsburg to develop ideas on China, migration, security and the economy in an open democratic workshop.
