Gozi to Rama: "Spend less time arguing with us and more time answering your citizens”

Sandro Gozi, Secretary General of the European Democratic Party and Member of the European Parliament, has addressed a direct message to Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama in a video published today on the EDP's channels.

"Prime Minister Rama, listen to your citizens," Gozi says. "Four of your last six posts have been devoted to attacking the European Democrats. You have found time to criticise us, our graphics, and even our Latin. Yet, more than a week after reports that hundreds of accounts belonging to Albanian activists and media outlets were restricted or deactivated, you have still not publicly called on Meta to provide full transparency."

Gozi stresses that the EDP has made no accusation against the Albanian government: "We have asked legitimate questions. Albanian citizens deserve clear answers, not political diversions or silence."

On violence, the Secretary General is unequivocal: "We condemn all violence — against members of parliament, citizens, police officers or protesters. No exceptions. Will you do the same, Prime Minister? Will you condemn violence against peaceful protesters, including when it is committed by police officers or unidentified individuals? The misconduct of some protesters cannot absolve a government of its own responsibilities."

"Albanians are entitled to accountable policy, transparent public decisions, protection of their land and credible action against corruption," Gozi continues. "A government seeking membership of the European Union cannot focus solely on the misconduct of protesters and attack a European political party for asking questions, while showing little willingness to address legitimate concerns about its own conduct."

He reaffirms the EDP's support for Albania's European path: "Albania matters to Europe. We support its European future. But EU accession is not a communication exercise. It requires freedom of expression, media freedom, political pluralism, accountable institutions and full respect for the constitution."

Gozi concludes: "Leadership is not about winning arguments on social media. It is about answering legitimate questions and listening to the people you govern. Prime Minister Rama, spend less time arguing with us and more time answering your citizens."

The full video message by Sandro Gozi is available on the EDP's social media channels.
