Bio

Junts per Catalunya (Together for Catalonia) is one of the leading political forces in Catalonia, founded in 2020 under the leadership of Carles Puigdemont, President of Catalonia in 2016–2017, who went into exile in 2017. Rooted in a long tradition of Catalan centrist and pro-sovereignty politics, it won more than 300 mayoralties in the 2023 municipal elections and came second in the 2024 Catalan election.

At the heart of Junts per Catalunya's project lies the defence of Catalonia's right to self-determination and of the nation's distinct identity, ideological plurality together with a centrist outlook in the economy and a strong commitment to social cohesion. It combines a firm attachment to Catalan sovereignty with a genuinely European conviction, seeing in the Union the natural framework in which the nations and territories of Europe can flourish.

Within the European Democratic Party, which it joined in 2026, Junts per Catalunya embodies a conviction at the core of the EDP's vision: that a strong Europe and strong nations and territories are not rivals but allies — and that the identities, languages and right to self-determination of Europe's peoples deserve their full place within the Union.
