Story

Juntos pelo Povo (JPP) is a Portuguese party born in Madeira, rooted in local democracy and a politics centred on citizens. Emerging from civic engagement in the island's communities, it has grown into a significant regional force, speaking for the people of Madeira and for a way of doing politics close to their everyday concerns.

At the heart of JPP's project lies the defence of local democracy and regional representation: transparency in public life, social responsibility, and the conviction that the autonomy of an island region must be matched by accountability and proximity to its citizens. As the party of an outermost region of the European Union, it gives particular attention to the challenges of insularity and to a fair place for the periphery within both Portugal and Europe.

Within the European Democratic Party, which it joined in 2022, Juntos pelo Povo embodies a conviction at the core of the EDP's vision: that Europe must remain attentive to its most distant territories, and that strong local democracy is the foundation of a Union that is truly close to its citizens.
