The Congress began with the formalities of opening the session. The EDP and its Secretary General Sandro Gozi had the opportunity to meet the local people and understand the main issues and needs, especially for the next EU elections. Frederic Petit also took part in this congress and presented his views on a more united Europe. Finally, the day ended with closing speeches and the formal closure of the congress, summarising the main conclusions and action points of the Freie Wahler’s vision of Europe after the 8th of June.

Instead, the Movement Democrate’s Congress in Blois last month served as a pivotal gathering, uniting like-minded people committed to progressive ideals and innovative solutions. The event was a testament to the movement’s unwavering commitment to fostering unity, shaping the future of politics and promoting inclusive governance. The EDP participated in the congress with a stand that served as an information point for questions about Europe.

With a focus on embracing diversity, the Congress provided a platform for engaging discussions, collaborative initiatives, and the exchange of transformative ideas.  For example, the panel on AI, disinformation and political advertisement with Sandro Gozi (Secretary General of the EDP and MEP), Jean-Louis Bourlanges (MODEM MP in France, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee), Jean-Noël Barrot (Minister Delegate for Europe), Sabine Thillaye (MODEM MP in France, Member of the National Defence and Armed Forces Committee), Laurence Farreng (MEP) was one of the most attended. All speakers emphasised the need for greater transparency in political advertising, combating disinformation, strict regulation of AI and specific restrictions on the use of sensitive and other personal data.

From addressing pressing societal challenges to charting a path towards a more inclusive and sustainable future, the Congress in Blois exemplified the spirit of progress and the power of collective action. As the movement continues to evolve and expand its influence, the Congress marked a significant milestone in reaffirming its commitment to driving positive change and shaping a better future for all.

The Retreat of our MEPs: dialogue, frankness and prioritization

On the 3rd of September, our EDP members of the European Parliament gathered in the historic and picturesque setting of the fortress of Namur, a magnificent structure that proudly overlooks the Meuse and Sambre rivers. This retreat, graciously organized and hosted by our affiliated party, Les Engagés, provided a unique opportunity for our MEPs to step away from the bustling corridors of parliamentary life and engage in meaningful dialogue in a setting conducive to reflection and collaboration.
