Junts per Catalunya Joins the European Democratic Party

The European Democratic Party is pleased to welcome Junts per Catalunya into our political family, reinforcing our presence in Spain and our shared commitment to a more democratic, federal Europe that respects national, cultural and linguistic diversity.

Announcing the move, Junts per Catalunya said: "Junts per Catalunya has officially joined the European Democratic Party (EDP/PDE), a European federalist, centrist party with a strong commitment to civil and social rights. With this accession, Junts strengthens its international projection and its capacity to influence the debates that will shape the future of the European Union. [...] Junts per Catalunya represents a central idea of the European project shared by EDP: that a strong Europe and the nations and territories that make it up are not incompatible projects, but allies. Identities, languages and the right to decide one's future democratically deserve full recognition within the European Union."

This vision matches our own: European integration, federalism and respect for territorial diversity go hand in hand, and a stronger Europe is one that protects the linguistic, cultural and national identities that make it up. The accession also reinforces our shared commitment to the rule of law and democratic dialogue.
