Story

Italia Viva is an Italian liberal, reformist and resolutely pro-European party, founded in September 2019 by Matteo Renzi, former President of the Council of Ministers. It brought together parliamentarians and civic figures from the reformist, modernising current of Italian politics, with the ambition of giving a clear home to a liberal-democratic centre too often squeezed between the two poles of Italian political life.

From the outset, Italia Viva has placed at the heart of its project the modernisation of the country and of its institutions: investment in education and infrastructure, the defence of civil rights and gender equality, sound and reform-minded economic policy, and an unwavering commitment to European integration. It is a party that speaks the language of pragmatism and responsibility, convinced that Italy's strength lies in a Europe that is stronger, more united and more capable of acting.

Within the European Democratic Party, which it joined in December 2021, Italia Viva embodies a conviction at the core of the EDP's vision: that the future of Italy and the future of Europe are inseparable, and that a modern, liberal and democratic centre is essential to the strength of both.
