In Zagreb, on the occasion of the upcoming elections for the European Parliament, the presentation of the manifesto of the European Democratic Party (EDP) was held.
The presentation was attended by other guests and invitees: Sandro Gozi – Secretary General of the European Democratic Party and Member of the European Parliament, Karl Erjavec – Vice President of the European Democratic Party, former Slovenian Minister, Valter Flego – Member of the European Parliament to the parliament and holder of the electoral list of 12 parties in the elections for the European Parliament (IDS), Radimir Čačić – president of the People’s Party – Reformists, Gabriela Bošnjak (HSLS), Krunoslav Lukačić (HNS) and Natalija Martinčević – vice-president of the People’s Party – Reformists.
It was pointed out that this was a historic moment for the liberal center in Croatian politics. High-ranking guests from Europe also confirmed that this is of crucial importance at this moment in the whole of Europe.
È stato anche sottolineato che il massimo decentramento possibile è la richiesta più importante di questi partiti e che le autorità regionali e locali devono avere accesso diretto ai finanziamenti dell'UE attraverso i fondi europei, per evitare che il governo centrale usi la forma burocratica per i suoi obiettivi politici, cioè per filtrare e impedire i progetti delle regioni in cui l'opposizione è al potere. Questo si è rivelato un grosso problema in Croazia e nei Paesi in transizione, ma anche nelle democrazie sviluppate.
Nel corso della discussione, è stata anche sottolineata la necessità di difendere appieno i diritti e le esigenze degli anziani, che sono il gruppo della popolazione più sensibile a tutte le minacce, soprattutto alla luce dell'invecchiamento della popolazione nell'UE, e i relatori hanno offerto soluzioni concrete al crescente problema di garantire alloggi a prezzi accessibili, che sta aumentando anche in Croazia, ma anche sul territorio dell'intera Unione.
